Agnes Bernice Leising, age 98, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the C.A Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe. She was born on October 28, 1921 in rural Frontier County, Nebraska to Martin and Sophia (Stagemeyer) Schutz. She was baptized on November 24, 1921 and confirmed on May 19, 1935 at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Elwood, Nebraska. She attended country school and Salem Lutheran Parochial School through the eighth grade. She valued education even though she wasn’t able to attend high school. At the age of 18, she became a housekeeper and nanny for a family in Lexington, Nebraska. She met Gilbert Leising at a Walther League softball game. They were married April 12, 1942 at Salem Lutheran Church. They made their home on the Leising farmstead south of Arapahoe where they raised their five children. They moved into Arapahoe in the summer of 1982. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2009. She became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in Trinity Women’s League and taught Weekday School. She was a member of Mid-Valley Extension Club and held the office of County Extension Club president. She was a volunteer at the Arapahoe Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels. She and Gilbert enjoyed the Senior Center and playing cards with friends. Agnes moved to Good Samaritan Assisted Living in 2012 and later to Good Samaritan Nursing Center where she resided until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gilbert on September 28, 2009; brothers, Bernard and his wife, Margaret, and Wilfred Schutz; brothers-in-law Edward Leising and wife, Clarabelle; Paul E. Leising and wife, Magdalene; Arthur Leising and wife, Lillie; daughter-in-law, Linda Leising. She is survived by her five children, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren. Daughter Carolyn ten Bensel and husband Larry of Arapahoe. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Regan Harsin and husband Brent; Emily and husband Andrew Sheridan, Haley, Tanner and Peyton. Julie Wright and husband Brett; Megan, Derek and Kelsey. Fran Benne and husband Jeff and daughter Sawyer; step-greatgrandchildren Josh Benne and daughters Emma, Claire and Graclyn; Jake and wife Manuela Benne and Jared Benne. Son Jerome Leising and wife Vestey of Edmonds, WA. Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren: Jared Leising and wife Julie; Owen and Evan; Joy Kelley and husband John Paul and daughter Georgia. Son James Leising of McKinney, TX. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Laura Parnell and husband, Cory and Ian; Andrea Bitunjac and husband, Bill; Oliver, Emory and Walter. Daughter Barbara Luke and husband Marvin of Oxford, NE. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Jennifer Bartels and husband Lynn; Luke and Max; Travis Luke and wife Cheryl; Brett and Brooklyn. Ryan Luke and wife Miranda; Hadleigh, Jase, and Brant. Son Thomas Leising and wife Linda of Arapahoe. Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren; Scott Leising and wife Paige; Emma and Hayden; Stephanie Leising. Sister-in-law Judy Schutz of Lincoln. Her family will always remember her as being a wonderful cook, a hard- working, loving and kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Viewing and visitation will be Friday, October 23, 2020 from 4 PM till 7 PM with family present from 6 PM till 7 PM at Wenburg Funeral Chapel, 652 Main St., Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. CDC and Southwest Nebraska Health District guidelines will be followed and suggested use of facial masks. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. James Moshier, officiating and will also be lived streamed on “Trinity Lutheran Church Arapahoe” Facebook page. Interment will follow at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska.
