Betty Louise (Taylor) Robinson

Betty Louise (Taylor) Robinson, age 83, of Beaver City, Nebraska passed away in her sleep on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Christian Homes, Holdrege, Nebraska. She was born to Henry W. & Ruby F. (Thomas) Taylor on August 25, 1930 southeast of Beaver City, Nebraska on the Moses Thomas farm. Betty attended school at District #2-McCarty School and then graduated from Beaver City High School with the Class of 1947. After dating during high school, Betty married the love of her life, George Eldon Robinson. The vows were exchanged at the Full Gospel Church on August 21, 1949 in Norton, Kansas with Rev. Smith officiating. After school Betty taught at several country schools in the Beaver City area, including District 2, District 9, and District 50. Betty retired from teaching in 1969 after teaching the upper grades at Hendley, Nebraska for several years. Even though a college degree was not required for teaching, Betty completed the four years of college while raising her family through correspondence courses and by commuting many miles to Kearney and McCook colleges. In the early 1990’s, Betty came out of “retirement” and sacrificed many personal hours to homeschool many of her grandchildren as she felt a solid academic education was of great importance. Betty and George were blessed with four children: Kathy, Don, Joe, & Becky. Family was always an important part of her life. As the family expanded – and they were blessed with grandchildren – Betty and George made it a priority to be present at games and activities to encourage and support. On one such occasion, Betty helped organize and bake enough cookies to send to grandson Eric and his whole unit while he was in Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood, MO. With the arrival of great-grandchildren, they still continued to drive through snow storms and many long miles to take in as many of their programs as possible. Hugs, prayers and encouraging smiles are what each one will remember forever. And – if one should ever need correction, they could count on a “Say now!” that meant Grandma still loved you, but you were walking a ‘fine line’. As a young girl, Betty accepted the Lord as her personal savior at Camp Maranatha in North Platte, Nebraska. Her faith in the Lord never wavered. Betty grew up attending the Precept Community Church. After marrying, Betty and George were members of the Free Methodist Church in Beaver City. Betty remained firm in her walk with her Savior even through the loss of their son Joe in 1983. Betty and George sang many duets while she accompanied on the piano and accordion. Betty taught Bible school and was a delegate to the Great Plains Annual Conference. Betty also served on the Great Plains Conference History Committee and helped compile artifacts and items relating to the conference’s history. Betty and her husband, George farmed in the area. Betty helped her husband by driving the tractor, milking the cows for their Grade A Dairy and gardening and canning for their family. After retiring from teaching Betty and George owned and operated Lucky R Drive-In in Beaver City from 1973 to 1991. In 2012, they re-purchased and opened The Lucky R as Betty felt it was important to have a place to eat that had a family atmosphere. Other jobs Betty worked at were Becton Dickinson of Holdrege, Swanson Turkey Processing of Oxford, the Beaver City Locker Plant and the Beaver City Manor where she served as Care Staff Member and Activities Director Betty’s enjoyment of family was the motivation for many hours of organizing family reunions for the Taylor, the Thomas, the Robinson and the Thompson families. She was always thrilled to find out who all would be attending. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, son Joe Henry Robinson, and brother Henry Allen Taylor. She is survived by her husband: George Eldon Robinson of Beaver City, Nebraska; daughter: Kathy & husband Wes Wilmot of Beaver City, Nebraska; Son: Don & wife Pat Robinson of Arapahoe, Nebraska and Daughter: Becky Robinson of Beaver City, Nebraska; Sister: Judy Nickell of Beaver City, Nebraska; 10 Grandchildren: Randall (Lori) Klooz of Laurel, NE; Eric (Becky) Klooz of Mitchell, SD; Christal (Shawn) Whetstine of Beaver City; Raquel (Dan) Dringman, Fullerton; Sara (Shane) Lentz, Arapahoe; Dana Robinson, Beaver City; Bethany (Levi) Greeson, Norton, KS; and Seth Robinson, Arapahoe; Bridgette (James) Timmerman, Elm Creek; & Joe Robinson, Beaver City.; 24 Great Grandchildren: Mitchell, Emily, Karsen, Jacob and Abby Klooz; Lincoln and Reagan Klooz; Madison, Kaiden and Makenna Whetstine; Cheyenne, Cierra and Catalena Dringman, Jared, Joshua, Brooke, Briana, and Bella Lentz; Peyton and Phoebe Brown, Candence, Paisley and Lyla Greeson; and Saylem Timmerman and a host of Nieces, nephews and cousins. Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 10 AM till 5 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and the family greeting the public from 6 PM till 8 PM at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Beaver City, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 1:30 PM at the Seventh day Adventist Church in Beaver City, Nebraska with Pastors Steve Sturtevent & Keith Theobald, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
