Burdella Jane Martin

Burdella Jane Martin, age 92, of Holdrege, Nebraska formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska. She was born on September 8, 1927 at Hendley, Nebraska to Theo Clair & Mary Rebecca (Schooler) Batchelor. In 1935, the family moved to Bayfield, Colorado and later to Clifton, Colorado before returning to Hendley in 1937. She graduated from Beaver City High School with the Class of 1944. She taught grades 1-4 for one year at Hendley District 99. In March of 1945 she married Robert D. Martin, with 4 children born to this union; Mary Sheryl, Robert Douglas, Stephen Clair, & Randall Lee. After his service in the U.S. Army, they farmed with his parents and later buying the farm and living there many years. After their retirement from farming, they moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska. Her husband Robert passed away in 2014 and Burdella would move to Holdrege in 2017. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, son Randall, daughter Sheryl Miller, and grandson Sean Martin, brother Theo Lee, sisters Florance Gleason and Marian Ahrens. She is survived by hersons Douglas & Joan Martin of Lincoln, Nebraska, Stephen Martin of Beaver City, Nebraska, and sonin-law Brian Miller of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, Grandchildren: Jody (Glen) Thulin, Brant (Robin) Miller, Angie (Scott) DeKok, Shelly (Andrew) Nickerson, Robert Martin, & Jill LaMay. Great Grandchildren: Sydney and Curtis Scott, Lexie Thulin, Ellie Clark, Jarron Clark, Hudson Nickerson, Ardyn Nickerson, Stella Nickerson, Norah Nickerson, Alyssa Salem, Torey Thulin, Tyler (Jenni) Thulin and their children Trevor, Tyson, & Wynlee Viewing and visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Wenburg Funeral Chapel, 652 Main St., Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with Rev Becky Saddler, officiating. Interment will be at the Hendley Cemetery, Hendley, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
