C. Jean Shafer, age 93, of Beaver City, Nebraska died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Tri-Valley Hospital at Cambridge, Nebraska. She was born March 29, 1915 at Orleans, Nebraska to Harry & Elfie (Childress) Olson.
Jean grew up in the Orleans, Nebraska . She graduated with the class of 1932 at Orleans High School at Orleans, Nebraska. Following graduation she attended and graduated from Cottey College at Nevada, Missouri in 1934. She began teaching kindergarten at Beaver City in 1934 and taught several years, later teaching at Oxford, Nebraska, Culbertson, Nebraska and Kearney, Nebraska. She married George W Shafer on March 29, 1943 at Denver, Colorado. Following marriage they returned to Beaver City to operate First State Bank. She operated G W Shafer & Son Store in Beaver City from 1960 till her death, she also was President and Chairman of Board at First State Bank at Beaver City following her husbands death April 8, 1977 till her death. She sang for many funerals and wedding over the years also.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter BV & Beaver City Chamber of Commerce, all of Beaver City, Nebraska. She also was a past member of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by parents: Harry & Elfie Olson, brother; Robert D. Olson on January 7, 1943, husband George W. Shafer, Jr., son Michael Shafer on October 7, 1989.
Survivors include: Son: Steve & wife Kay Shafer of Beaver City, Nebraska
Daughter: Meredith Williams of Beaver City, Nebraska
Daughter-in-Law; Nancy Shafer of Omaha, Nebraska
Grandchildren: 7 Great-Grandchildren: 1

As per Jean's request the casket will only be opened for her family. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, 1 PM until 8 PM and Wednesday 9 AM until 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be Thursday; July 10, 2008 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church at Beaver City, Nebraska with Rev. Robert E. Berlie, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City, Nebraska with PEO Chapter BV officiating at the gravesite.
