Carol Jean Wendland

Carol Jean Wendland, age 76, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, September20, 2020 at Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge, Nebraska. She was born on October 10, 1943, in Holdrege, Nebraska to Melvin LaVern and Theresa (Schutz) VonLoh. She grew up on the farm ten miles southwest of Elwood, Nebraska in Gosper County. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, southwest of Elwood. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and then Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. She started Salem School and then attended high school at Elwood High School. She married Donald Ewald Wendland on September 17, 1960 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Elwood. Don and Carol would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. To this union three children were born Donna, Deb, and Marlin. She worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Fetters Grocery Store, Wagner’s Supermarket, and then the Arapahoe Pharmacy where she retired in 2009. Carol was always caring for others. She loved to cook, sew, and garden with Don. She spent her whole life in the Elwood and Arapahoe area. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, brother LeRoy, sister-in-law Malinda Beck and her husband Ron Beck, niece Lorna Beck. Carol leaves many happy memories behind with her family and children: daughter Donna and husband Steve Liebsack, daughter Deb Wendland and family, son Marlin and wife Kristi and their daughters Makayla and Rochelle, sister-in-law Della Mae VonLoh, brothers Gerald and wife Lynn VonLoh & Terry VonLoh, sisters-in-law Norma Petermann and husband Martin, Gladys Sandman and husband Bill, brother-in-law Alvin Wendland and wife Carol, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial Services will be held Friday, October 16, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. James Moshier officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
