Charles Lee Vaughan Pruitt, age 83, of Holdrege, Nebraska formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at this home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on November 21, 1940 at Pangburn, Arkansas to Charles Eli & Artie Delaval (Adams) Pruitt. He was the oldest of seven children.
He was married and two girls were born to this union. He later remarried Shelia Irene Herbert of Arapahoe, Nebraska on March 28, 1970. This marriage was blessed with 9 children. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, band, and other school activities. He was a devout husband, father, grandfather and family man. Many hours were spent with his family camping, boating, fishing, and hunting. He could not pass up a good card game. Charles served in the US Army, Edison American Legion, and a member of the Isaak Walton League.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dillon Pruitt, sister Donna Taylor, and great grandson Kash Pruitt, great-grandchildren Serenity and Ryker Park, Brother-In-Law Wayne Phillips and nephew Kevin Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Shelia Pruitt, sisters Brenda and Johnny Crafford, Phyllis Phillips, Rachel and husband Hugh Tubbs, Barb and husband Ken Underwood, children Larry and wife Teresa Myers, Mike and wife Wendy Pruitt, Ed and wife Cindy Pruitt, Tammy and husband Kevin Hilker, Teresa and husband Bill Strackbein, Shawn and wife Joanna Pruitt, Vaughn King, Bobby and wife Jenny King, Kim and husband Jason Polenske, 26 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Brandon Pruitt, Jacob Pruitt, Reid Pruitt, Dale Ellis, Nate Myers, Colton Polenske, Addison Pruitt, Malachi King.
Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 2 PM till 4 PM at Garey Funeral Home, 652 Main St., Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 2 PM at Arapahoe Christian Church of Christ, Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor Darren Popple, officiating. Interment will follow at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Military rites will be presented by the Edison American Legion and the Army/National Guard honor guard. Services will be livestreamed on Garey Funeral Home Facebook page. Garey Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
