Clara Edith Pridemore, age 99, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Waterford Assisted Living in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born on February 4, 1916 at Lincoln, Arkansas, the first born to Byrd and Elba (Hightower) Grimsley, to whom later born a daughter, Jessie, and a son, Cage.
Life on the farm taught her hard work, self-sufficiency, making do with little, and love for family.
As a young woman, Edith attended a neighbor’s dance with a friend named Avis, whose brother, Darrell Pridemore noticed her striking figure and sparkling eyes. They were soon married in Prairie Grove, Arkansas on April 16, 1936 and began their life together in Waukita, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two daughters, Darlene, in 1940 and Wanda, in 1943.
Through the years Edith worked in many different positions, including providing domestic help for various families, cooking at a café and Drummond school. More notably, though, her energy was devoted to providing for her family-cooking, sewing, gardening, canning. An icon of self-sacrifice, she always found more joy in giving than receiving and will be greatly missed.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and daughter Darlene.
She is survived by her daughter Wanda and husband Roger Rikli of Lincoln, Nebraska
