Darel Dean Perkins, age 71, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, formerly of Stamford & Beaver City, Nebraska area died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at his home in Minnesota after a short battle with cancer. He was born March 4, 1938 at Beaver City, Nebraska to Herman and Beth (Andrews ) Perkins.
Darel grew up in Furnas County, graduating with the Class of 1955 from Beaver City High School. He married Mary Williams on June 21, 1955 at Precept Community Church at Precept, Nebraska. They farmed west of Stamford, Nebraska for some 31 years. They were awarded Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year Award by Governor James Exon in 1974. Darel served as the director of the County Livestock Association and had been President of the Stamford School Board at one time. They moved to Minnesota in 1987 were he was load out manager and personal representative of Speedway Trucking. He worked at the St. Paul, Minnesota Stock Yards for 15 years. During the last years of his life, he kept busy working in carpentry, yard services, and traveling to Stamford & Beaver City areas to help his Son Lynn with the farming operation. He was a member of Furnas County Livestock Association. He enjoyed woodworking, listening to Blue Grass and Gospel Music. Darel was a member of Celebration Church in Lakeville, Minnesota and former member of Friendship Center Church at Beaver City, Nebraska.
Darel was preceded in death by his parents, brother Sylvester and sister, Geraldine Christensen and brother-in-law Paul Christensen.

Kim and husband Jeff Zottnick of Eagan, Minnesota

Viewing and visitation in Beaver City, Nebraska will be Friday, March 27, 2009 from 1 PM until 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held in Celebration Church in Lakeville, Minnesota on Thursday, March 26, 2009 for his Minnesota friends. Additional Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 10 AM at First Christian Church in Beaver City, Nebraska with Rev. Bonnie Perkins, Pastor of Friendship Center, officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Creek Cemetery, rural Beaver City, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska in charge of local arrangements.
