Derryl Raymond Long, age 83, of Arapahoe, Nebraska formerly of Holbrook, Nebraska died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Tri-Valley Hospital at Cambridge, Nebraska. He was born April 29, 1923 at Maxwell, Nebraska to Ora Michel & Frankie Ethel (Baker) Long.
Derryl grew up in rural Cambridge, Nebraska area, graduating from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1941. He married Fae Mues on November 24, 1946 at Arapahoe, Nebraska. They farmed in the Arapahoe and Holbrook areas till retiring in 2000. He moved into C. A. Mues Good Samaritan Nursing Home at Arapahoe, Nebraska in April of 2004.
The most important thing in Derryl’s life was his family, and he worked tirelessly and without complaint to care for them. He held his friends in high esteem and considered himself rich for having them. His greatest happiness was in performing an honest day’s work and finding something to laugh about. He was a skilled mechanic who enjoyed going to farm sales and filling his garage with bargains that he could use in repairing just about any engine or piece of equipment he came across.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Gertrude and two Brothers; Norris & Clarence.

Viewing & visitation will be Saturday, June 3, 2006, 9 AM till 8 PM & Sunday, June 4, 1 PM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to service on Monday at Ella Missing Community Center in Arapahoe, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 5, 2006 at 10:30 PM at Ella Missing Community Center in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. David Otten, officiating. Burial will follow at Holbrook Cemetery at Holbrook, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska in charge of arrangements.
