Douglas H. Inman

Douglas H. Inman, age 62, of Stamford, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska after a short battle with cancer. He was born October 31, 1950 in McCook, Nebraska, the first of three children born to Harold C. & Lena M. (Leiding) Inman. Doug grew up in Stamford, Nebraska and graduated from Stamford High School with the Class of 1969. He went on to attend school at McCook Community College, in McCook, Nebraska, and then to Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska, where he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Education. He taught and coached at Clarkson, Nebraska from 1973 to 1980 and then at Madison, Nebraska from 1980 to 1981 before enlisting in the United States Army. Doug served in the United States Army for 22 years and obtained the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major before retiring honorably in 2004. During his military career, Doug specialized in military intelligence. He served as First Sergeant for five Military Intelligence Companies; including deployment with the 1st Infantry Division to Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Desert Comfort. He continued to excel and was accepted to the Sergeant Major Academy where he graduated with distinction. Doug then went on to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland for three years prior to his retirement. While enlisted, he received numerous awards and commendations, including the Army Meritorious Service Medal and the prestigious Knowlton Award among many others. After retiring from the United States Army, Doug continued his work as an Intelligence Analyst at the National Security Agency for 2 more years before moving back to Omaha, Nebraska. He eventually moved back to Stamford, Nebraska in 2010 to be near his family. He then started Doug’s Painting Service, painting many area barns and homes, and also served as a lay minister in the area. He was a member of the American Legion Post #233 of Stamford, Nebraska and attended the Faith Community Church in Beaver City, Nebraska. Doug was an avid sports fan, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed supporting the Southern Valley Eagles. Doug was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his passing: his sister Trudy and husband Dan Bose of Stamford, Nebraska; his brother Scott Inman of Stamford, Nebraska; his niece Dr. Shauna and her husband James LaFleur of Sioux City, Iowa; and his aunt Geneva Inman of Denver, Colorado. Visitation will be Monday, November 26, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Nebraska and prior to services at the Church on Tuesday. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Faith Community Church in Beaver City, Nebraska with Pastor Daniel David officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City, Nebraska with Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard.
