Doyle A. Wineland

March 12, 1937 — April 20, 2024

Doyle Wineland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Lou (Eubanks) Wineland, his son Calvin Wineland [Desiree], daughter Tasha Beckman [Phil], grandsons Calvin Beckman, Calvin Wineland Jr, Daniel Beckman, and Austin Wineland, granddaughter Sarah Beckman, great-granddaughter Maggie Jo Beckman and sister Naomi Capriotti, and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Duane Wineland, and two sisters, Marie Burhoop and Nelda Aragon.

 

Doyle was a devoted family man and a pillar of his community. In the 1980s, he was recognized as the most registered land surveyor in the United States, a testament to his dedication and expertise in his field. He was also a Master Mason, a charter member and Past Master of Miloma Lodge #328 AF & AM in Millard, NE, and served as the International Order of Job's Daughters Associate Guardian of Bethel #32 in Littleton, Colorado and Grand Associate Guardian of Colorado. 

 

A man of many talents and interests, Doyle was a member of various organizations including Eastern Star, Tangier Temple, Drum and Bugle Corps, Thunderbirds, and B Patrol. He was an avid sports fan and longtime season ticket holder for the Nebraska Huskers football team (from 1965). Doyle enjoyed gardening, golfing, and traveling to destinations all over the world.

 

Born in Hill City, Kansas in 1937 to Alvin Henry Wineland and Gussie Meryl (Bice) Wineland, Doyle led a rich and fulfilling life that took him to various cities and all 50 United States. Doyle met his high school sweetheart in 1954. They were married in 1956 in Arapahoe, NE and moved to Casper, WY. He and his wife would then move to Lincoln, NE, Omaha, NE, Denver, CO and then spend retirement years enjoying the farm in Furnas County, NE. He and his beloved wife Mary Lou embarked on many adventures together, sharing a deep love that lasted a lifetime.

 

Doyle attended high school in Culbertson and Holbrook, NE. He played basketball and football for the Holbrook Hornets. Doyle attended college in Casper, WY and then the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, studying Civil Engineering. 

 

Doyle will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Doyle was baptized and confirmed in the Holbrook United Methodist Church and most recently was a member of Arapahoe Methodist Church. He recently resided in the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, NE, after living three years in Prairie Pines Independent Living in Arapahoe, NE. He will be laid to rest at the Holbrook Cemetery.

 

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Garey Funeral Chapel, 652 Main Street, Arapahoe, Nebraska. A celebration of Doyle's life will be held at Arapahoe Methodist Church on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 10:30 AM with Pastor George Probasco, officiating. A burial will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery. Service will be livestreamed on “Arapahoe Methodist Church” Facebook page. Holbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arapahoe Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice in his memory.
