Elmer James Schaefers

Beaver City, Nebraska Elmer James Schaefers, 74, of Beaver City, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, of Cambridge, Nebraska. He was born on July 6, 1940 in Clayton, Iowa near Locking Dam 10 to Harold & Venita (Carpenter) Schaefers. They moved to California in the mid 1940’s then moved to Cogswell, North Dakota till he graduated from High School. He furthered his education and went to Mechanic School. In 1961 he moved to Berthoud, Colorado and managed Schaefer’s Repair and worked other various jobs. On January 28th, 1975 after his mother died they moved to Beaver City, Nebraska. He then married Susie (Missing) Rygol on March 26, 1987. They then moved to Florida and went to work as a mechanic in Williston, Florida until he was hurt on the job and became disabled. In September of 1999 they moved to Denver, Colorado and managed University Place Apartments. They made their home back in Beaver City in June of 2004. He was a member of the St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. As a young boy he served as an alter boy in California and Cogswell, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 uncles, 9 aunts, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Velma Smith. He is survived by wife: Susie Schaefers of Beaver, City, Nebraska Sister-In-Law: Betty & husband Howard Johnson of Cambridge, Nebraska Aunt: Alice Smith of Holdrege, Nebraska Uncle: Wendell & Carol Smith of Beaver City, Nebraska Niece & Nephew: Shelley Johnson of Holbrook, Nebraska & Shawn Johnson of Cambridge, Nebraska Great Niece: Mylea Monter of Holbrook, Nebraska Aunt-In-Law: Irene Vandament of Arapahoe, Nebraska Many cousins in California, Iowa and North Dakota and friends. Graveside services will be February 22, 2014 at 11 AM at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City, Nebraska with Father Rayappa Konka, officiating.
