Florine Annette Osborn, age 94, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of Beaver City, Nebraska passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska. She was born May 6, 1921 at Beaver City, Nebraska to Glen L. “Pete” & Grace (Cunningham) Jewett.
Florine attended school at Beaver City Schools thru the 9th grade before the family moved to Bristol, Connecticut where she graduated high school. After graduation, Florine worked in Bristol until she enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1943. She served her country in Paris, France, earning the American Service Medal, Gold Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the WAAC Service Ribbon. Following her honorable discharge in June of 1946, she worked in the Bristol area as a telephone operator. She married Edgar N. “Red” Osborn on October 1, 1949. They lived in Connecticut, California, and Florida, before moving back to Beaver City, Nebraska in 1975. Although she worked in a variety of jobs, she was primarily a dedicated housewife and mother, raising five children. After moving to Beaver City, she enjoyed selling Avon for over 30 years.
In Beaver City, Florine was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, VFW, Red Hat Ladies’ group. She volunteered many hours at the Methodist Thrift Store, Red Cross Bloodmobile, and the city voting polls. She enjoyed following her grandchildren in all their activities, serving on the Beaver City Library Board, and doing water aerobics at the swimming pool.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edgar, daughter Jeri Hyke, grandson Matthew Osborn, brother Glenn Jewett, sister WillaDean Jackson, granddaughter- in-law Angie Osborn.
She is survived by Sons: John & wife Cheryll Osborn of Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida
James & wife Betty Osborn of Columbus, Nebraska
Jay Osborn of Beaver City, Nebraska
Daughter: Joanne & husband Bruce Chesterman of Bertrand, Nebraska
Son-In-Law: Rick Hyke of Hendley, Nebraska
Grandchildren: Joshua, Lindi, Elizabeth “Liz” (Jason), Morgan (Mike), Victoria “Tori” (Ethan), Caleb, Jackson, Kate, Jesse
Great-Grandchildren: Kira, Gage, Riley, Lily, Charlie, Ryan, & Colin

Viewing and visitation will be Friday, January 22, 2016 from 10 AM till 8 PM with family present from 5 PM till 7 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Nebraska and prior to the services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM at United Methodist Church in Beaver City, Nebraska with Pastor Becky Saddler, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
