Frieda M. Roell

Arapahoe, Nebraska Frieda M. Roell, age 78, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at her home. She was born August 9, 1934, at Chicago, Illinois to Harry and Vivian (Jones) Atkinson. Her father was in the military, so growing up their family lived at many different cities across the United States, and spent two years in China. She graduated high school from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. She married William Hastings and lived in Japan for a few years. They would move to Pasadena, California and later divorce. She married Doug Roell in 1973. She worked for the Pasadena Unified School District as Library Coordinator. She would retire in 2000 and move to a farm north of Arapahoe, Nebraska. Frieda touched the lives of many people with her wit, wisdom, and big heart. Some even thought of her as their “second mother”. She loved gardening, sewing, and pampering her pets. She was a member of the Arapahoe Library Book Club, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Grange, Furnas-Gosper Historical Society, and the Holbrook Quilting club. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband Doug Roell of Arapahoe, Nebraska Sons: David W. Hastings of Geyserville, California Robert W. Celebration of Life will be June 29, 2013 at 11 AM at her home north of Arapahoe, 73019 Road 421. Inurnment will then be at the East Muddy Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska.
