Gara Lee Sprague

March 25, 1933 — June 28, 2022

Gara Lee Cody Sprague, age 89, formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away June 28, 2022 at the Cheyenne County Village, in St. Francis, Kansas. She was born on March 25, 1933 to George and Verna Cody.

Growing up at the Sapa State Lake, Oberlin, Kanas where her dad was the caretaker, gave her many wonderful memories which she shared with all of her ornery brothers and sisters. She graduated from Decatur High School 1952 and the McCook Beauty Academy.

She fell in love with Paul Sprague. Their children Glen Dean and Paula Jean brought much happiness to their lives. She worked for several beauticians until she opened her own shop “The Beauty Buggy”. Health issues began from years of inhaling all of the chemicals so a career change was made. She enjoyed her years at B-D in Holdrege, Nebraska. Made a lot of friends and great memories. She was best known for making Raggedy Anns and Andys for her co-workers.

She was very active in the Saint Paul Episcopal Church, loved sewing, doing crafts with Paul and of course shopping. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She enjoyed spending every minute she could with them.

Several years after Paul passed she moved into Prairie Pines in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She loved the family-like atmosphere there. When increased health problems occurred, she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe. Her final home was at the Cheyenne County Village, St. Francis, Kansas to be closer to her daughter.

Greeted in heaven by her husband Paul, grandchildren Susie Sprague and Christopher Austin. Her parents George and Verna Cody, all of her siblings, Roy, Warren, Elden, Irel, Arvilla and Rita.

She is survived by her son Glen and wife Gena Sprague of Plattsmouth, NE and daughter Paula Austin of St. Francis, KS, grandchildren Joseph and Jennifer Austin, Ethan, Nathan, Calvin Sprague, one beautiful great-granddaughter Tatem Elizabeth Sprague. Many nieces and nephews will mourn her passing.

Memorial service will be August 11, 2022 at 10 AM at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. Richard Moon, officiating.
