Gary G. Hilker, age 82, of Holbrook, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Cambridge, Nebraska. He was born on June 13, 1935 at Oxford, Nebraska to Herbert R. & Rose (Kramer) Hilker. Gary was baptized and confirmed at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, near Holbrook. He attended school at Holbrook High School and graduated with the class of 1954. He joined the Army National Guard in February of 1957 and served for 6 years. He married Mary Ellen Pickering on June 5, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury, Nebraska. To this union four children were born: Mark David, Jerry Dean, Gregg Richard, & Diana Kay. They made the home on the family farm near Holbrook, farming and ranching until retirement in 1995. Gary would then help Bud DeVries, Steve & Craig Hilker with farm work. Gary was active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Cambridge, serving on many boards and helping were needed. He was also a Holbrook Lion’s Club charter member since 1973, Young Farmers member and other community boards. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and cheer on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jack. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Hilker of Holbrook, Nebraska, Sons: Mark and wife Janie Hilker of Holbrook, Nebraska, Jerry and wife Laura Hilker of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Gregg and wife Angie Hilker of Salem, Oregon, and one daughter: Diana and husband Christopher Fields of Fort Collins, Colorado, Grandchildren: Lance (Amanda), Taran (Sadie), Kallie, Addison, Kennedy, Caden, Ty, Ryah, River, Piper, Owen, Emma, Elijah, Olivia, and Eleanor Condolences or personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com. Viewing and visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018 from 2 PM till 8 PM, with family present from 3 PM to 4 PM at Wenburg Funeral Chapel, 652 Main St., Arapahoe, NE. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:30 PM at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cambridge, Nebraska with Rev. Kenton Birtell, officiating. Interment will be at the St. Matthew Cemetery, Holbrook, Nebraska with military rites by the Edison American Legion and Army National Guard Honor Guard.
