Georgene Marie Carskadon, 72, of Edison Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 due to complications of late-stage dementia, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was born Georgene Marie Knecht in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 15th, 1948 to Eldon and Marie Knecht. Georgene Marie Knecht became Georgene Marie Carskadon, on October 11, 1968 marrying Lee Carskadon in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were married at the Vine Congregational Church in Lincoln. The two of them met at the University of Nebraska, where Georgene earned her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, with emphasis on Animal Science. In addition to her expertise in Animal Science, working on the family farm, she worked at the Mid Nebraska Individual Services (MNIS) facility in Oxford, Nebraska for several years providing in-home care. Georgene was also a volunteer at the Arapahoe Pantry for many years. Georgene was a member of the Vine Congregational Church, Lincoln, Nebraska where she was baptized as an infant. When they moved to Edison, both Lee and Georgene joined the Edison Christian Church where she was buried in Christian Baptism. Later they joined the Arapahoe, and Beaver City Christian Churches. Because Georgene had difficulty in climbing multiple steps, they joined the Faith Community Church and finally, transferring membership to Grace Fellowship of Beaver City. She was actively involved with the Christian Student Fellowship, of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, vacation Bible School at the Edison Christian Church, and the pianist at the Arapahoe Christian Church. Georgene loved chickens and had numerous ceramic chickens in her kitchen and sunroom. She enjoyed animals very much. She used her knowledge of animal science in purchasing livestock, feeding, birthing, and even surviving a new mother sow which bit her on the stomach. She loved baby chickens, baby lambs, baby goats, and baby calves. Baby kittens were also dear to her. She had a witty sense of humor which she successfully passed down to her son David, and her grandchildren, and surely to some degree others as well. That sense of humor and her strong Christian faith are of great comfort. A part of her lives on in us, while she begins her new journey in heaven. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ihling “Lee” Carskadon, her son David Carskadon of Edgewater, Maryland, her brother Kenneth Knecht and Sister-in-Law Janice Knecht of Omaha, Nebraska, 2 grandchildren: Hayden and Anna Carskadon, of Edgewater, Maryland, 3 nieces and nephews: Diana Morgan (Knecht) of Omaha, Melissa Henderson (Knecht) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Brian Knecht of Omaha, and Fred the Beagle dog who still runs to her chair hoping to find her. A viewing will be held from 2 pm till 8pm, Monday, December 7th , 2020 at the Wenburg Funeral Chapel, 652 Main St., Arapahoe, Nebraska. Due to the Covid-19 concerns, a Memorial Service will be scheduled later in the2021. She will be laid to rest at the Arapahoe Cemetery, next to her mother and father in law Selma and Ihling “Brick” Carskadon, and Selma’s parents, Gazena and Fred Broeker. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences and personal reflections may be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com
