Gertrude (Gert) J. McCue, age 81, of Alma, Nebraska passed away from a long-term illness on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska. She was born on July 13, 1932 on a farm north of Arapahoe, Nebraska to Herman & Bertha (Gehring) Monter.
She graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1950 and married her high school sweetheart Eugene (Hoppy) McCue in 1954. Gert and Hoppy were married for 60 years and had three sons. She worked as a beautician, for the local newspaper, and in an agri-business as a secretary and bookkeeper in Tekamah and Alma Nebraska. As an avid reader, Gert loved her last job as a librarian at the Alma library before retiring and spending more time with her church, family, gardening and winters in Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ron Glanzer.
She is survived by her husband Hoppy McCue of Alma, Nebraska

Mike McCue of Dallas, Texas
Dave & wife Lisa McCue of Omaha Nebraska
Sister: Delores & husband Leland Hermes of Rogers, Arkansas
and four grandchildren; Katie, Elizabeth, Patrick and Keri
Gert was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend and will be missed by all. The family would like to thank her many friends over the years for their friendship to Gert and the excellent care she received from the entire staff of Good Samaritan Colonial Villa in Alma.

There will be no viewing or visitation as cremation was chosen. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Alma Nebraska. A luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall. A graveside gathering of the immediate family will be held later at the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe, Nebraska. The family has requested that any memorials be made to the Hoesch Public Library or Peace Lutheran Church both of Alma, Nebraska or to a charity of the donor's choice. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
