Glenva Roberta Hinkle

Hendley, Nebraska Glenva Roberta Hinkle, age 88, of Alliance, Nebraska formerly of Hendley, Nebraska also known as Glennie to many, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at a nursing home in Alliance, Nebraska. She was born March 18, 1916 at Hendley, Nebraska to Robert L. & Louise (Kriste) Martin. She was raised in the Hendley area and graduated from Hendley High School. She married Edwin “Swede” Wolzen on May 11, 1935 at Hendley, Nebraska. They had seven children. Edwin & Glenva farmed in the Hendley and Beaver City area for many years. Glenva also worked at Swanson’s in Oxford and First State Bank in Beaver City, Nebraska. Edwin died in 1962. In June of 1963 she marred Ralph Hinkle at Arapahoe, Nebraska and they lived in Beaver City until 1967. They moved to Oxford, Nebraska and opened the G & R Drive Inn and created a successful business serving thousands of meals and treats. Several years later they sold the business and bought her parent’s home in Hendley where they lived until 1996. In 1996 they moved to Holdrege, Nebraska. Ralph died in 1998. Shortly afterward she moved to Alliance, Nebraska so be closer to daughter Joyce and son Dick. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska until 1999 when she transferred her membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by parents, infant son; Jerry; husband Edwin “Swede” Wolzen in 1962, husband Ralph Hinkle in 1998, son Neil in 2000 and Sister Merna Smith in 1997. Survivors include: 3 Sons: Dick & wife wife Nancy Wolzen of Belleville, Kansas Dennis & wife Roxanne Wolzen of Oxford, Nebraska Kent & wife Kris Wolzen of Bettendorf, Iowa 1- Step-Son; Donald & wife Marcia Hinkle of Omaha, NE 1- Daughter-in-law: Kathy Wolzen of Wells, NV 2- Daughters: Carolyn and husband Dean Beck of St Paul, NE Joyce & husband Clarence Beck of Alliance, NE 1- Step-Daughter: Charlotte & husband Pepper Easom of Ontario, OR 1 Brother: Bobby & wife Burdella Martin of Arapahoe, NE 2 Sisters: Irma Mart of Beaver City, NE Neva Longsine of Central City, NE Grandchildren: 19 Great-Grandchildren: 41 Great-Great Grandchildren: 11 Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, July 31 from 9 AM till 8 PM and Sunday, August 1, 1 PM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Nebraska & prior to service Monday at the church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Monday, August 2, 2004 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor George Naylor, Officiating. Burial will be at Hendley Cemetery at Hendley, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska in charge of arrangements.
