Hazel Marie Durner, age 81, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born April 6, 1934 to Ralph and Sylvia Rosier Moore at Freedom, Nebraska in Frontier County.
She married James “Eldon” Durner on September 4, 1954. After their wedding, they moved to Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington, where Eldon was stationed in the navy. Two children, Lisa and Michael, were added to their family, with great delight.
Hazel asked Jesus to become her Lord and Savior as a young girl and was very strong in her faith.
Hazel graduated from Cambridge High School in 1951. She LOVED working! She was a teacher at country schools and later she worked at Grants in McCook, the vet clinic in Holbrook and for many years at Wagner’s in Arapahoe. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Holbrook Baptist Church where she played the organ for over 40 years. She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening, making things from plastic canvas and putting puzzles together. She loved spending time with her husband, children and later grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lisa Vassar of Arapahoe, Nebraska; son, Michael of Brule, Nebraska; Grandchildren Melissa Young of Holdrege, Nebraska, Dillon Young of Gothenburg, Nebraska & Sean Durner of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sister JoAnn (Glenn) DeVries of Trumbull, Nebraska; brothers Wayne Moore and Stanley (Cindy) Moore of Bartley, Nebraska; Sisters-in-law Marian Moore of McCook, Nebraska, Norma Wymore and Margaret Allen of Cambridge, Nebraska, Marge (Jim) Nixon of Bartley, Nebraska, Laura (Gerald) Wolfe of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Brother-in-law Raymond (Barbara) Durner of Cambridge, Nebraska and many other family members and friends.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon on August 10, 1988, her parents, parents-in-law Fred & Evalena Durner, sister Barbara Wymore, brother Harold Moore, brothers-in-law Marvin Wymore, Richard Allen, Robert Durner & wife, Karen and Granddaughter Aundrea Renee Young.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 10 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church in Holbrook, Nebraska with Pastor Dale Whitson, officiating. Interment will be at the Bartley Cemetery, Bartley, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children’s Home of Omaha, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
