Helen Ruth Gehring, age 87, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was born on the family farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska on June 13, 1928 to Christoph Julius and Alvina Katherine (Walter) Haussler.
She was baptized in the Christian faith on July 8, 1928 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church northwest of Arapahoe. She attended parochial school for 8 years and was confirmed in that church on May 18, 1941. She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1945. After graduation, she taught in a rural school for 2 years northwest of Holbrook. She married Gordon Edward Gehring on May 11, 1947. Two children were born to this union; Neal Howard and Beth Irene.
Helen and Gordon lived on a farm northeast of Arapahoe until his death in 1989. She then moved into Arapahoe. She worked for a short time at a local grocery store in Arapahoe and then was employed with the local bank for 26 years and retired as Vice President and head of the installment loan department. After her retirement from the bank, she was employed at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Nursing Home for a short time. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, walking, and singing.
During her retirement she spent countless hours of volunteer work in the community and her church. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe and served 9 years on the executive board of the District LWML. She was a past president of the Arapahoe Chamber of Commerce and the Southwest Nebraska Chapter of National Association of Bank Women. She served as treasurer and work financial audits for several organizations. She was a member of the Nebraska Pride Chorus of Sweet Adelines International. In May of 2004, the chorus was honored to sing at the dedication of the National World War II Memorial Dedication in Washington, D.C. She did extensive traveling in the United States as well as foreign countries. Two of the trips were concert trips, one to Australia and New Zealand for the 150th anniversary of the Lutheran Church in New Zealand and one to Israel for the Trimillenium of Jerusalem. She was able to see the “Passion” play in Germany in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon, brother Hugo Haussler, sisters; Margaret McCulloch, Katherine Brennan, & Wilma Pauline Taylor, 9 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law.
She leaves to mourn her son Neal and wife Cindy Gehring of Casper, Wyoming and daughter; Beth and husband Wayne Young of Austin, Texas
Sisters: Leona Schievelbein of Arapahoe, Nebraska, Julia Thomas of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mildred Snider of Redmond, Washington, 2 sisters-in-law
Grandchildren: Heather and husband Brent Jurgenson of Casper, Wyoming, Ryan & wife Katie Gehring of Denver, Colorado, Kimberley Young and husband Jonathan Sprinkle of Austin, Texas, Jocelyn and husband Tim Pylant of Houston, Texas
Great Grandchildren; Paisley, Royce, Piper, Marlee, Sebastian, and Addison
And many Nieces and Nephews

Visitation will be Sunday, August 30, 2015, from 2 PM until 8 PM at the Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska, as the casket will be closed at the visitation and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Monday August 31, 2015, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. James Moshier, officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, at Arapahoe, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church or C.A. Mues Samaritan Center of Arapahoe, NE. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements.
