Howard N. Hector

Howard N. Hector, age 88, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. He was born on March 28, 1925 on the family farm outside of White Sulphur Springs, New York to Walter A. & Ruth A. (Edwards) Hector. Howard went to school in White Sulphur Springs Elementary and Liberty High School, graduating from LHS in 1942. Howard returned to the family farm where he worked until the family moved to Arapahoe in 2010. Howard married Georgia Nell Barnett on February 7, 1954, in Metropolis, Illinois. From their union two children were born: Melody in 1956, and Nelson in 1962. Howard was very involved in the White Sulphur Springs Methodist Church holding many offices and leadership positions. He carried out many out reach programs both personally and for the church. He and his family held monthly worship services at two area Care Homes for over fifteen years. He loved to visit the sick and homebound and continued to do so by phone even after he was able to physically go to their homes. Being a life-long dairy farmer, Howard was very active in the Dairymen's League Cooperative and a 50-year member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Survivors include his wife Georgia of Arapahoe, Nebraska daughter Melody and husband Mike Adams of Shelton & Arapahoe, Nebraska son Nelson and wife Susie of Arapahoe, Nebraska 3 granddaughters: Becky and husband Kevin Selin of Omaha, Nebraska Katie and husband Logan Dettmann of Waverly, Nebraska and Trina Hector of Arapahoe, Nebraska 1 great-granddaughter Elinor Selin of Omaha, Nebraska Brother-in-law Vernie and wife Beverly Barnett of Decatur, Illinois, Sister-in-law Mary Jane Raphael of Granite City, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of wonderful friends. Condolences or personal reflections can be left at wenburgfuneralhome.com Viewing and visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2014 from 10 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor Becky Saddler, officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe, Nebraska. The family is requesting that memorials be given to the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church or the Shelton United Methodist. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
