Kenneth LeRoy Bishop, age 99, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away on January 12, 2023, at Omaha, Nebraska. He was born October 7, 1923, to Albert and Crilla (Maybon) Bishop at their farm near Beaver City, Nebraska.
He attended Beaver City High School and graduated with the class of 1941. He then taught grades 1-8 at a country school for a year before beginning studies at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. In 1943 he went on active duty in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a Morse code instructor, radio man, and then as a power lineman on Okinawa. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to college.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Ada Luetta Van Cleave of Beaver City, Nebraska, on December 26, 1948. They made their home in Lincoln where both were students at the University. They were very active at First Christian Church and made life-long friends with the other young couples there.
Kenneth graduated January 28, 1950, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, earned memberships in the Sigma Tau and Eta Kappa Nu honorary engineering fraternities, and was hired by a large natural gas pipeline company. He and Ada were soon raising their growing family which included Randall, James, Robert, John and Carol. Over the years they lived in Fritch TX, Beatrice NE, Malvern AR, Lufkin TX, Gray OK, Conroe TX, Beatrice NE, and then Lincoln, Elkhorn and Omaha NE.
Kenneth was skilled in many technical areas, and while living in Conroe, Texas, took on the task of building a new house for the family and passed on building skills to his children. He also enjoyed woodworking, building control-line airplanes and HO train layouts, being a Boy Scout Scoutmaster, and going to auctions. He served in various capacities at church and in his community. His favorite car was their green 1955 Chevrolet.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Florence, his wife Ada and son John. He is survived by son Randy and wife Beth of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, son James and wife Lexi of Santa Cruz, California, son Robert and wife Marilyn of Middletown, Maryland, daughter-in-law Sue Bishop of Beatrice Nebraska, daughter Carol and husband Skip Legge of Omaha, Nebraska, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be June 3, 2023 at 10 am at First Christian Church in Beaver City with inurnment following at Mt Hope Cemetery in Beaver City. Memorials may be given to charity:water ( https://charitywater.org ). Arrangements are being done by Garey Funeral Home in Beaver City.
