Laura M. Becker, 46, of Beaver City, Nebraska, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Cambridge, Nebraska as a result of an auto accident South of Hendley, Nebraska. She was born May 18, 1963 in Norton, KS to Willis C. and Lynn M. (Nichols) Nelson.
Laura grew up in Norton, Kansas. She graduated from Norton Community High School at Norton, Kansas with the Class of 1981. She married Lynn Becker on Nov. 7, 1981 in Norton, KS. She was a stay at home mother and later was employed at the Beaver City Times Tribune. Laura has been employed at the Furnas County Sherriff’s Office for the past 18 years currently as office manager, where she was also serving as president of the Nebraska Emergency Service Communications Association (NESCA). Laura was involved in many community activities and liked helping her farming neighbors with harvesting and brandings. She loved her family, friends and especially her grandchildren and enjoyed camping, and her horses. She was a very creative person and enjoyed her crafts. Laura was the sunshine of everyone’s lives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willis Nelson; and grandparents, Tom and Ruth Nichols and Cliff and Edna Nelson.
She is survived by her husband, Lynn of Beaver City; a daughter, Stefanie (Elliot) Hoefs of Arapahoe, NE; a son, Adam (Kayla) Becker of Wood River, NE; her mother, Lynn Nelson of Norton, KS; grandchildren, Landen and Adellyn Hoefs of Arapahoe; a sister, Patsy (Bob) Moody of Lawrence, KS; three brothers, Tom (Melissa) Nelson of Paola, KS, Steve (Tamara) Nelson of Norton, KS and Dennis (Jan) Nelson of Wichita, KS; brothers and sister-in-laws, Danny (Karen) Becker, David (Julie) Becker and Rhonda Becker; numerous other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Willis Nelson; and grandparents, Tom and Ruth Nichols and Cliff and Edna Nelson.

Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, May 1, at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City from 1 PM till 8 PM. Casket will not be opened at the church.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 3, 2010 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church in Norton, Kansas with Father Robert Barnhill, officiating. Cremation will follow services with inurnment at a later date. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska in charge of arrangements.
