Leland Donald Rogers, of Grand Island, Nebraska, formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska died Monday, December 22, 2008 at Tiffany Square Care Center, at Grand Island, Nebraska. He was born on a farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska on March 20, 1915 to James O. & Verl (Ellis) Rogers.
He attended country school District 17 in Frontier County. In 1928, he went to Holbrook High School and graduated with the class of 1932. He was an avid baseball fan and continued to play on local teams until 1947. After graduation, he farmed with his dad until his dad's retirement in 1957. On August 27, 1938, he married Charlotte Mae Odell in Curtis, Nebraska. They farmed in Frontier County while he also worked in the ASCS office in Stockville and Curtis for many years. He would also work for Federal Crop Insurance. In 1957, they moved to the home his parents left when they retired. In 1987, they retired and bought a home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. They would move to Grand Island in October of 2005 to be next door to their daughter and son-in-law. As his health declined, he was a resident of Country House and later Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. They enjoyed attending their daughters activities, dancing, & playing cards with friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Holbrook, serving as treasurer for many years. He was active in the Holbrook Lion's Club and served as secretary and president. He was instrumental in organizing the Senior Center in Arapahoe and served on the board for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, son-in-law Duane Donaldson.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte (Lottie) Rogers of Grand Island, Nebraska

Viewing & visitation will be Wednesday, December 24, 2008 from 9 AM till 5 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, December 26, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor George Probasco, officiating. Interment will be at the Holbrook Cemetery, at Holbrook, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Arapahoe or the Arapahoe Senior Center. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
