Leon Wayne Riepe, age 83, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at his home. He was born August 10, 1932 at Arapahoe, Nebraska to Benhard C. and Jennie C. (Haussler) Riepe.
Leon attended grade school at District 64 Garfield, south of Arapahoe. He attended high school at Arapahoe High School, graduating with the class of 1950. He studied at the University Of Nebraska College Of Agriculture where Leon and Margaret met. While at college, he was active at the University Lutheran Chapel. Leon was inducted into the US Army in 1953. Following completion of his service in the Army, he returned to finish his studies at the Ag College. On June 11, 1955, Leon and Margaret Anne Harmon were united in marriage at Park Center Congregational Church rural Elgin, Nebraska.
Following his graduation in 1956, Leon and Margaret returned to the Riepe family homestead south of Arapahoe where their children Susan, Anne and Douglas were raised. Producing crops and livestock on the family farm was Leon’s livelihood until he retired in 2012 and moved to Sunshine Village.
Leon was active at Trinity Lutheran Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, Elder, and Congregational President. He was active as a 4-H club and project leader and was a founding member of the Arapahoe Area Food Pantry. Leon was a longtime, active member of the Edison, Nebraska American Legion Post #343 serving as adjutant for many years. He served as an AAL Branch officer. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and keeping up with family members near and far. Leon remained faithful as his vision and health failed. He valued the Wednesday morning Bible studies and Thursday evening worship services.
Leon is survived by his children Susan Riepe of Lincoln, Nebraska, Anne and Doug Hadley of Ralston, Nebraska, and Doug and Janet Riepe of Cheney, Kansas. Grandchildren include Jennifer Riepe, Kirk Riepe and David Hadley, brother Dale and Evelyn Riepe of Mount Pleasant, Texas and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret, and grandson Evan Wayne Riepe.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 2 PM till 8 PM and Friday, June 10, 2016 from 9 AM till 11 AM at Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services are Friday, June 10, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. James Moshier, officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, at Arapahoe, Nebraska with Edison American Legion Post #343 giving military rites. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
