Lester L. Haussler

Lester L. Haussler, age 73, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016. He was born September 22, 1942 to Lester J. and Lelia (McCoy) Haussler. Les grew up in and around Arapahoe, NE, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1960 and attended McCook Jr., Dana, and Kearney State Colleges earning degrees in Economics and Sociology. He served in the Army National Guard from 1966 – 1972. On May 30, 1965 he married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Marlene Monter. They celebrated 50 beautiful years of marriage together and devoted their lives to their family. Their daughter, Angela, was born in 1967 and son, Rick, in 1971. Les began his career with the Bureau of Reclamation in 1961 as a young surveyor in Norton, KS, and then at the Job Corp in McCook, NE. In 1971 he accepted a position as an Economist for Reclamation and continued to work at the Denver Federal Center until his retirement in 1996. In retirement Les remained active serving as a trustee at Concordia Lutheran Church and spent countless hours helping with the re-modeling and expansion project. He enjoyed the real estate world, playing golf, and wood working. He made each grandchild a rocking horse, and most recently completed one for Marlene. The last two winters he enjoyed time in Arizona and making pottery. Les and Marlene were blessed to travel to many parts of the U.S. and the world. Most of all, Les loved and enjoyed his family. He was a sports enthusiast and coached both Angela and Rick in multiple sports and never missed a game as they grew up. His greatest joy was his role as Bumpa to his 5 grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was a wonderful mentor, a loyal friend, a servant of the Lord, and will always be remembered for his smile and laughter. Les is survived by his wife, Marlene, daughter Angela and husband Gregg McCaslin, son Rick Haussler, grandchildren Emily Jarrell, husband Dillon and great-granddaughter Olivia Faith Jarrell; Cai McCaslin, Rylie Haussler, Connor Haussler and Alaina Haussler; mother Lelia Haussler; brothers Dan (Alisha) Haussler, Dee (Jerri) Haussler, Brothers and sisters-in-law Bob and Phyllis Remmenga, Bill and Janice Magorian, Holger and Judy Beckmann and Neal and Nancy Monter. His father, Lester J. Haussler, preceded him in death.
