Margaret Ida Dahms, age 88, of Arapahoe, Nebraska died on December 10, 2009 at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was born on September 27, 1921, 9 miles north of Arapahoe, Nebraska in Gosper County to Karl F.J. & Ida (Hartman) Wendland.
She was the 10th child of 12. They grew up north of Arapahoe, Nebraska and went to Immanuel Lutheran School. She was baptized on October 23, 1924, & confirmed on May 17, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gosper County, Nebraska. Her mother died when she was 16 years old, so she took over being the care giver, by doing all of the household chores for her father and the 6 brothers and sisters. She married Leonard A. Dahms on February 8, 1942 at Blue Hill, Nebraska. They made their home in Blue Hill, were she raised large gardens and had chickens. She cleaned and sold the chickens to the workers of the Ammunition Depot at Hastings, Nebraska. In 1960 they would move back to Arapahoe, Nebraska. In the mid 1970’s they bought the Dairy Queen in Arapahoe, Nebraska and renamed it Dahms Drive-Inn. She continued to run it for 40 plus years. Their son Dennis Lee Dahms was killed in an auto accident in 1971. Leonard passed away on December 9, 1977. After retirement, she moved to Prairie Pines, Good Samaritan Assisted Living, & later to C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, all of Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, of Arapahoe, Nebraska. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School & the Lutheran Women’s Mission League. She was a hard worker and was a kind and loving person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, son Dennis Dahms, brother Carl, Max, Leonard, Martin, George, & Victor Wendland; Sisters Henrietta Warner, Emma Monter, Elvera Bloch, & Bertha Kalthoff
She is survived by Son: Douglas & wife Mary Dahms of Arvada, Colorado
Daughter: Mary & husband Albert Connelly of Ringwood, New Jersey
Sister: Helene Dickmeyer of Arapahoe, Nebraska
Grandchildren: Katy, MacKenzie, Whitney, & Alex

Viewing and visitation will be Friday, December 11, from 10 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 12, at 1:30 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Vicar James Moshier, officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
