Margaret Mary Smith

Arapahoe, Nebraska Margaret Mary Smith, age 83, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was born June 18, 1923 at Gosper County, Nebraska to William & Katie (Abood) Toomey. She was raised north of Arapahoe, Nebraska on the family farm. She attended school at Arapahoe High School and graduated with the class of 1935. On October 17, 1945 she married Melvin C. Smith at the First Methodist Church, in Lexington, Nebraska. They made their home north of Arapahoe were they farmed for many years. In 1962, they moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska. She would work as a clerk for Lewis Brothers Grocery Store and Hemelstrand’s Hardware Store. In August of 2003, she moved to the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center because of health reasons. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW, Wesleyan Circle, In His Steps Bible Study Group, Sunny’s Sunday School Class, all of Arapahoe, Nebraska. She also was a 4-H leader and Friendly Circle Extension Club of Gosper County, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her parents, Brother Jimmy Toomey, Sister Sadie Toomey. Survivors include Husband: Melvin Smith of Arapahoe, Nebraska Daughters: Susan & husband William Orsborn of Denver, Colorado Kathleen & husband Daniel Keiner of Omaha, Nebraska Nancy Long of Holbrook, Nebraska Brothers: Tofy Toomey of Lincoln, Nebraska Amen Toomey of Modesto, California Sisters: Lucille White of Medford, Oregon Dorothy Vickland of Thornton, Colorado Louise & husband Herbert Jones of Corona, California Darlene Toomey of Denver, Colorado Grandchildren: 7 Great- Grandchildren: 2 Condolences or personal reflections can be left at www.wenburgfuneralhome.com. Viewing & visitation will be Tuesday, August 22, from 1PM till 8 PM and Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 9 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 24, at 1:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor George Probasco, officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery, at Arapahoe, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
