Marguerite J. “Peg” Kinsman was born July 26, 1927 on a farm near Gothenburg, Nebraska to Harvard Russell and Ethel Beatrice (Rainwater) Crawford, the 4th of six children. Peg passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Central City Care Center at the age of 92. Peg’s mother Ethel died when she was four years old and her father later married Violet Ostrum, who became a loving mother to the six children and later two more sons joined the family. Peg attended grade school in Gothenburg and several high schools while living in California and Washington, returning to Nebraska and graduating from Beaver City High School with the class of 1945. Following high school, Peg was a telephone operator in Beaver City for five years. On May 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to F. Glenn Kinsman and moved to Friend. To this union a daughter, Glenda and two sons, Mark and Lee were born. In Friend, they purchased the Dairy Queen and changed the name to Daisy Queen which they continued to operate for 38 years, retiring in 1989. Peg often managed the business, hiring and training new employees, especially while Glenn was busy driving the school bus and other community activities. Peg was a member of the Friend United Methodist Church and as a young girl, had attended the Gothenburg Methodist Church. Over the years she was active in her church as a member of the United Methodist Women. Peg was a supporter and fundraiser for the Arthritis Association and was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. Along with Glenn, she was member of the Friend Country Club where she was an avid golfer. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, several card clubs and participated in bowling leagues for several years. Peg is survived by her husband, Glenn, of Fairmont, daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Dean Griess, Sutton, sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Julie Kinsman, Peoria, AZ and Lee and Regina Kinsman, Crocker, MO, five grandchildren and spouses, Chandra and J.R. Muske, Hastings, Ryan and Katie Griess, Sutton, Ginny and Erik Van Duyn, Amy Kinsman, and Jacob Kinsman, all of Peoria, AZ, six great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Nancy Crawford, Stafford, VA, JayDee and Kathe Crawford, Omaha, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Violet Crawford, granddaughter, Erin Michelle Kinsman, sisters and brothers-in-law, Bert and Clarence Jonson, Virginia and Merle Aden, Pat and Don McVay, brothers and sisters-in-law, Barney and Joy Crawford, Trent and Lola Crawford, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Marvis Kinsman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the Friend United Methodist Church with Pastor Paixao Baptista officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Visitation is the day of the funeral from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. A funeral luncheon will be held at the church following the graveside.
