Marilyn Marcille DeVries, age 83, of Yuma, Arizona, formerly of Cambridge, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at her home in Yuma. Marilyn was born in Cambridge, Nebraska on July 24, 1931, to Wayne and L. Fern Johnson.
She attended Arapahoe Public Schools and graduated with a teaching certificate from Arapahoe High School in 1949. The following school year she taught in a rural school south of Arapahoe. Marilyn married John Wayne DeVries on May 12, 1954. The Lord blessed them with five children. Wayne and Marilyn raised their family in Cambridge. Marilyn was baptized in the Congregational Church where Marilyn and Wayne were members for many years. In 1967, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Kearney State College where she also did her graduate work. Marilyn taught many years in McCook, Bartley, Oxford, Arapahoe, and Cambridge. She touched the lives of many children and loved them all. Wayne and Marilyn moved to Mexico in 1996 where they served their Lord in Mexico Missions until 2010. They used their God-given talents in the work they did. They worked in two orphanages and helped to build churches and living quarters for native pastors in Mexico. They were members of the Oasis of Hope Church in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne; her precious daughter, Shelly Marcille; and her parents, Wayne and Fern Johnson; brothers-in-law Richard Frogge, Stanley Alexander, Raymond Bockerman, Jack DeVries, and Harry Wilson; sisters-in-law Diane DeVries and Phylis Alexander; a niece, Barbara Ann Bockerman; and nephews Bruce DeVries and Duane Glenn DeVries.
Marilyn is survived by her three sons: Rick (Dixie) DeVries of Laramie, WY,
Steve DeVries of Laramie, WY,
Brian (Kris) DeVries of Gordon, NE;
One daughter: Mari Lyn (John) Poppert of St. Paul, NE;
Two grandchildren, Brooke and Olivia Poppert; and four step-grandchildren, Lauren and Robyn Daily and Justin and Jesse Davis
Sisters-in-law Mary Bockerman of Arapahoe, Dorothy Wilson of Inland, Elsie Mae Frogge of Grand Island; sisters and brothers-in-law Carl and Audre DeVries of Cambridge, Tobias (Bud) and Gwen DeVries of Arapahoe, Glenn and Jo DeVries of Trumbull, Leonard and Wyoma DeVries of Inland, Harold and Kathy DeVries of Lincoln, and Charles DeVries of Arapahoe; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, January 29, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church at Arapahoe, NE. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 29, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Becky Saddler, officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the funeral home to be used for an educational scholarship in Marilyn’s memory.
