Milton Junior Slama, age 82, of Beaver City, Nebraska passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was born November 17, 1939 to Rudolph and Engeline (Langhorst) Slama in Beatrice, Nebraska, the first of six children. Milton grew up with his family on a farm south of Friend and attended Wilber High School, graduating in 1957. After graduation Milt moved to Lincoln to work at Miller & Paine, until attending trade school in Milford, where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in Diesel Technology. Milton then worked in Ogallala and Lexington, later moving to Arapahoe where he met the love of his life, Terry, when he attended a dance at the Beaver City bank basement. On April 18, 1965, Milton was married to Terry Cass in Beaver City, where they later set up their home and raised their five children: Raschelle Rae, Roland Lee, Jody Lynn, Jaylene Marie, and Kimberly Sue. Milton worked for International Harvester dealerships in Arapahoe, Beaver City, and Holdrege before starting his own business, Milt’s Tractor Service, where he worked until he reluctantly decided to retire due to years of health issues. Milt’s shop was known for being exceptionally clean and organized; he could tell you where any tool was in his toolbox. After retirement he took great joy in helping friends with their harvest work and driving a school bus for Southern Valley Schools for several years, where he was loved by many children. Milt enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and playing Fast Track, as well as watching his kids and grandkids participate in all of their activities throughout the years. Milton was known for his outstanding work ethic, his honest business practices, and his helping hands, but mostly he will be remembered for his unforgettable, infectious laugh. He was an active member of the Beaver City Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Fire Department, Grace Brethren Church, and Faith Community Church. Milton was preceded in death by his son Roland Slama; parents Rudoph and Engeline Slama; brother, Ronald Slama; parents-in-law Alfred and Mildred Cass; brothers-in-law William Sladek and Norman Clem; nieces and nephews Kathy Sladek, Rex Sladek, Ashley Plank, and Faith LaMunyon.
