Nora Althea Toomey, age 89, of Kearney, Nebraska formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska died on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Mount Carmel Home, in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born on January 1, 1923 at Edison, Nebraska to Joseph R. & Belle M. (Baker) Hunt.
She graduated school at Edison High School and went on to Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska. Upon receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at Bartley, Nebraska for 1 year before moving on to Snowball country school north of Arapahoe, Nebraska in Gosper County. She then married Jimmy G. Toomey on August 30, 1945 at the McCook Air Force Base in McCook, Nebraska. They would move to Enid, Oklahoma while Jimmy fulfilled his military obligation. After his discharge, they moved back to the farm in southern Gosper County. They would farm and ranch until 1992, when they moved to Arapahoe to retire. Her husband Jimmy would pass away on January 25, 1997. In October of 2001, she moved to Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, Nebraska.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, & Friendly Circle Extension Club of Arapahoe. She enjoyed being a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and coordinator for the Cancer Society.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jimmy, 3 brothers Ronald, Wilmer, & Infant Elbert Hunt.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Frink of Kearney, Nebraska

Sister: Irene Stone of Denver, Colorado
Grandchildren: Heather, Christopher, Heidi, Amanda, Rhonda, & Michael

Viewing & visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 10 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, January 27th, 2012 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. Michael Flury and George Probasco, officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodists Church of Arapahoe and the Arapahoe Fire Department. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
