Patty (Dean) L. Oatman, age 89, of Boise, Idaho passed away on November 28, 2018. He was born on August 25, 1929 in Hollinger, Nebraska to Floyd H. and Mary E. (Reynolds) Oatman. He attended his early school years at Hollinger, then transferring to the Beaver City schools graduating with the class of 1948. After high school he joined the Marine Corp. Taking his boot camp at San Diego, California and was stationed later at Camp Pendleton, California. He was also stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia as well as Barstow, California. In July of 1950 he was transferred to Long Beach, California where he later was sent to Korea. He was in the group that landed at Inchon and the recapture of the city of Soule, Korea. In November of 1950, he was deployed to northeast Korea where he fought for two months in sub-zero weather at the battle for the Chosin Reservoir. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart near Hagarui, Korea. He returned to the states and was stationed at the Hastings Ammunitions Depot until his discharge in October, 1951. On June 9, 1950 he married Joyce E. Ford in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union three children were born, Cynthia Jo, Steven Lynn, and Michael Dean. They lived in California until Pat was sent overseas, after his return they lived in Hastings, Nebraska until moving to Denver, Colorado in 1957. He would work as a welder and sheet metal worker for The Adolf Coors Company until retiring in 1993. In 1994, they moved to Alma, Nebraska. He attended the Christian Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 118 and the “Chosin Frozen Few” group, being one of the survivors of the famous “Chosin Reservoir Battle”. He loved to fish and play golf along with his old cars and collection old toys. He spent many hours restoring his old cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, a daughter Cynthia Kohlstedt, a son Steven Oatman , one grandson Joshua Paul and one grandson Steven Colf, sisters Ruth and Katherine, brothers Perry and Jack. He leaves to mourn his passing, a son Michael Oatman, Six grandchildren; Carie Kohlstedt, Dawn Fredrickson (Hank), Stephanie Oatman, Lindsay Colf (Charles) Jennifer Dominguez (Brian) and Clinton Oatman. He also leaves 9 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2017 at 2 PM at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Beaver City, Nebraska with Pastor Bill Weaver, officiating with visitation 1 hour before the start of the service. Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, of Beaver City, Nebraska with military rites given by the Beaver City American Legion Post.
