Richard William Snyder, age 89, of Arapahoe, Nebraska died on March 16, 2011 at his home. He was born on July 18, 1921 in Arapahoe, Nebraska to Hervey W. & Kathryn (Mayer) Snyder.
He attended rural school in Gosper County, Nebraska and graduated from Arapahoe High School with the Class of 1939. He was employed at Williams Brothers in Arapahoe after graduation. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1942. He was wounded in action in Germany in March of 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. Following his return to the states, he was hospitalized until his discharge in January 1948. In December 28, 1946, he married Doris Holloway at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe during a military leave from William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. After his discharge, they returned to Arapahoe to make their home.
He ran the Minneapolis Moline machinery business in Arapahoe until his appointment as rural mail carrier in 1959. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in January 1987. Their home was blessed by the arrival of 2 sons, Philip and Tom, and a daughter Kimberly. He was a member of St. Germanus Catholic Church, Lion's Club, American Legion Post #96, Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Arapahoe and the Disable American Veterans Organization.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, sisters Mary Jane Lawson, Marion Hanson, & Margaret Johnston, brother Robert Snyder, Brother-in-laws Robert Lawson, Ned Johnston Sr, & Kenneth Holloway & sister-in-law Arva Holloway, nephew Matthew Snyder.
He is survived by Sons: Philip Snyder of Omaha, Nebraska

Daughter: Kim & husband Bill Dawson of Edison, Nebraska
Granddaughter: Kayla & Erika Dawson of Kearney, Nebraska

Great grandson: Kasen Harvey
Brother-In-Law: John Hanson of San Diego, California
Ralph & wife Elda Holloway of Lincoln, Nebraska
Hubert & wife Ruth Doll of Lincoln, Nebraska
Sister-In-Law: Patricia Snyder of Arapahoe, Nebraska

Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, March 19, from 1 PM till 8 PM and Sunday, March 20, from 1 PM till 5 PM at the Wenburg Funeral Home, in Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Rosary will be Sunday, March 20, at 7:30 PM at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 21, at 10:30 AM at St. Germanus Catholic Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Father Robert Barnhill, officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, at Arapahoe, Nebraska with military rites by the Arapahoe American Legion Post #96. Memorials are suggested to Asera Care Hospice. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
