Robert (Bob) Lee Shaffer, age 78 of Edison, Nebraska passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born January 17, 1935 in Beardstown, Illinois to Vernie Melvin & Velma Pearl (Millard) Shaffer, the oldest of 4 children. Vernie moved the family to Oregon where he welded in the ship yards. The family then moved to a farm north of Arapahoe where Bob attended country school. The family then moved north of Edison and he finished his education at Edison Public School. In high school Bob excelled at football and was on the track team.
Bob was united in marriage to Marilyn Chapman on February 11, 1955. Four children were born to this union – Bonnie, Betty, Cindy, and Rob.
Bob worked construction jobs which included Industrial Pipelines out of Holdrege, NE, working in several states. In 1962 he opened his own mechanic shop in Edison. In 1972 he went to Sydney, NE for one year to help construct the 3 wheel car called “Fascination”. He operated a leather repair shop fixing saddles, boots, & trampoline covers. Bob then closed his mechanic shop and obtained his water and waste water certification and worked for the Village of Edison until his retirement.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman loving hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He also enjoyed going to auctions, cutting wood, and watching deer on the river. Later in life, he loved to play cards and visit with his friends. In 2005, Bob accepted the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Vernie and Velma Shaffer; a brother and sister in infancy; a brother, Calvin; son-in-law Alan Amen, mother and father in-law Abe and Laverne Chapman; brother in-law Gary Chapman.

12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Edison Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska with Pastor Kirk Einspahr, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Edison Cemetery, Edison, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
