Rodger “Shawn” Allen Alberts was born on January 23, 1952 in Greeley, CO to parents Lewis and Arleen Alberts. Shawn grew up with his older sister Geraldine, two older brothers, Bob and Mike and one younger brother Ted. Shawn attended Lincoln Elementary, Byers Junior High and South High School in Denver, Colorado.
Shawn enlisted in the Army on January 23rd, 1970, on his 18th birthday and proudly served in the 101st Airborne. Shawn was stationed in Germany during his service and then re-enlisted and served 2 additional tours in Vietnam where his first daughter Shaleen was born.
After leaving the Army in 1974, he returned to Denver where he met the entire Jones Family for the first time. Shawn would later be reunited with Melody and move to Arapahoe, NE where he spent the remainder of his life surrounded by his loving family and friends. Shawn and Melody were united in Marriage on October 18th, 2004, in Glenwood Springs, CO where they loved to vacation whenever they could get away
In 1996 Shawn traveled to visit his mother in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where he re-committed his life to Jesus Christ. Shawn and Melody attended River Valley Evangelical Free Church for many years and became members in 2007. The two served in several capacities within the church until Shawn was diagnosed for the third time with Lung cancer in 2023.
Shawn loved fishing and camping, lighthouses, gnomes, and duct-tape. He spent many years building an elaborate train town in his basement, named after his grandchildren. Later in life he enjoyed collecting and smelting various metals and building and decorating a park next to his home for his wife and family to enjoy for years to come.
Shawn was known by most of his grandchildren and great grandchildren as Papa and as PeePaw by the rest. He enjoyed sending personalized good night messages to his loved ones by text and learning, studying and living the word of God.
Shawn passed away surrounded by his wife and daughters, Jamie and Beth, at his home in Arapahoe, NE. He checked in to his mansion in the sky shortly after five in the morning on Friday, June 7th, 2024.
Shawn was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Arleen, his brothers Bob, Mike and Ted, his daughter Shaleen, son Michael and great-grand daughter Azalea.
He is survived by wife Melody, sister Geraldine, sons Shane, Shawn-David and Scotty, daughters Jamie and Beth and their husbands David and Andrew. As well as daughter Laura and daughter-in-law Holly, 13 grandchildren ages 4-30 and 14 great-grandchildren ages 5 months to 10 years.
