Selma C. Carskadon-Hauxwell, age 99, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. She was born on October 1, 1915 on a farm near Orleans, Nebraska to August F. & Gezena M. (Von Hallen) Broeker.
When Selma was 6 years old the family moved to a farm southwest of Edison, Nebraska. She attended District 105 for her grade school years and then graduated from Edison High School as the Salutatorian. She later attended Business College at Hastings, Nebraska. She secured a position with Farm Security Administration. She then met her future husband Ihling “Brick” Carskadon, they were married on September 25, 1942 while he served in the U.S. Army. During his stretch in the Army, Selma came home to Arapahoe and worked at the office of Attorney George Proud. After Brick returned from the service in 1946, they moved to Genoa, Nebraska to farm. In 1949, they moved to the Broeker family farm, in which they farmed there until 1973. Her husband passed away in 1975 at which time they were residing in Arapahoe. After her husband’s death, she worked at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe as a Certified Aide. In 1980, she met and married Jay Hauxwell from McCook, Nebraska. They resided in Arapahoe until his death in 2001. She was a leader for 4-H club & Girls Scouts while being a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Red Cross.

Selma is survived by her son: Lee & wife Georgene Carskadon of Arapahoe, Nebraska
daughter: Linda & husband Col. Sam Schutte (USA Ret.) of Malcolm, Nebraska
Step-Son: Richard & wife Jeanie Hauxwell of McCook, Nebraska
Douglas & wife Carol Hauxwell of McCook, Nebraska
Ronald & wife Bonnie Hauxwell of Springfield, Nebraska
Neal & wife Margie Hauxwell, of McCook, Nebraska
Step-Daughter: Janet & husband Dale Heimer of McCook, Nebraska
Grandchildren: David & wife Julie Carskadon of Edgewater, Maryland
Karey Schutte of Lakewood, Colorado
Amy & husband Phil Graham of Syracuse, Nebraska
Great-Grandson: Hayden Carskadon 2 Great-Granddaughters: Anna Rose and Zoie Lee Graham

Viewing & visitation will be Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 10 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Arapahoe Christian Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor Ken Breinig, officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
