Wilsonville, Nebraska

Steven E. Best, age 64, of Wilsonville, Nebraska passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on July 24, 1958, in Great Falls, Montana to Eugene E. and Dorothy L. (Schoolmeesters) Best.

He attended high school in California and then moved to Colorado after his schooling. He started his own painting business and ran it for over 40 years in Denver, doing multiple housing projects and private residences. He used to say he loved making everyone's life have more color. In 2005, Steve and some others saved a women's life while riding motorcycles and he endangered himself by swimming to a rollover underwater, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office recognized him with the Life Saving Award for this.

While painting in Denver he met his wife, Cintra. They were inseparable from the start, and He married Cintra Lee Rule in Las Vegas on 8-8-98. Cintra and Steve bought a house in Wilsonville, Nebraska and spent the last 20 years remodeling and driving back and forth on weekends from Colorado. In 2010, they moved down permanently, and Steve started doing Hot Shot Trucking, delivering goods and items such as the Birth of the NFL statue in Canton, Ohio, for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He visited every state except Maine in his travels.

He then decided to do some logging in the Carolina’s in 2015 and they were there until 2018. In 2010, he started doing contract work for FEMA and in 2016, insurance adjusting to help people in their time of need with disasters around the country with his wife. He traveled with her when he was not trucking and loved to help. Steve was always helping neighbors and friends with any job they needed. He had a big heart when it came to helping people and never asked for anything in return.

He enjoyed boating, camping, and motorcycle riding. He liked to cook for his family, especially making breakfast. He was immensely proud to be an American and showed his love in many ways.

He is survived by his wife Cintra, mother Dorothy, son Ryan, and daughter Tonya, brothers Kevin and wife Diane, Mike and wife Piper, sister Elena and husband Lynn, and grandson Damon.

He is preceded in death by his father Eugene and dogs Tyger and Emma.
