William P. Swanson, age 93, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, formerly of Cambridge, Nebraska died on August 18, 2009 at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center, in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on May 28, 1916 on the family farm southeast of Cambridge, Nebraska to William & Hilda O. (Simpson) Swanson.
He graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1937. After high school, he moved with the family to Oregon. He married Edith Clara Martin in Yakima, Washington. After a few years of working in Oregon, they moved in 1940 to the Swanson family farm southeast of Cambridge, Nebraska to farm and raise cattle. Their family was one of the first to drill an irrigation well in the Furnas County area. For several years, he was an Amzoil & motorcycle dealer and enjoyed working on many different motorcycles. In 2004 they would move to the CA Mues Good Samaritan Assisted Living, in Arapahoe, Nebraska and later to the Nursing home. On November 24, 2005 his wife Edith died.
He enjoyed motorcycles, traveling, hunting, and working as a mechanic on various items. He enjoyed attending auctions and acquiring a variety of collectibles. In 1973, he received the Pioneer Farm Family Award for the family homestead being in the family for more than 100 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Edith, sister Ada Swanson, brother Perry Swanson, brother-in-laws Wendell and Wayne Martin.
He is survived by his Brother-in-law: Dale & wife Kay Martin of San Manuel, Arizona

Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday, August 25, fro 9 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 26, at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Vicar James Moshier, officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, in Cambridge, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
